Rachel loves being outside and connecting with the earth- it’s a sensory experience for her. Mountain biking provides a gateway to encounter the geography of various places. She started dabbling in trail riding around the James River Park System in Richmond, VA in 2014 on a fully rigid single speed. The need for speed influenced her to try downhill in 2015. She fell in love.
In 2016, she started racing downhill in the beginner category. In 2017, she upgraded to a pro license through UCI. Concentrated on the ProGRT series in 2017, she managed to achieve a 6th place finish overall while only attending the races on the East Coast. The mental and physical challenges of racing keep her inspired to do better and push harder for 2018. She rides for Coqui Cyclery in Richmond, VA.
Rachel works at Upper Shirley Vineyards full-time year round and as a raft/SUP/kayak trip leader and guide on the James River in Richmond throughout the summer season. Being a river guide allows her to share this beautiful river city and inspire others to connect to their surroundings. Originally from Cape Cod, MA, she makes Richmond her home because of the James River and the park systems that surround it, there is truly something special here and eliminating travel time to participate in many outdoor activities means you have more time doing what you love.
